TARAPADA DE

“We are being driven by someone in power. We are like the pawns of a checkboard. Partition was forced onto us.”

Tarapada De, now 87, retired Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, moved from Dhaka to Calcutta along with his family and friends. He recalls the Partition days where his family was left without a permanent residence for almost a decade. He mentions how his family was both attacked and rescued by Muslims, and recounts his days at St. Gregory’s High School, Jagannath College and Dhaka University.
